The title's fairly self-explanatory: I have broadband again!

Let me explain. Back in late November, my cable modem suddenly couldn't get a signal. At the time, I was with CIA.com, a reseller for Shaw. They didn't answer any email or return any phone calls. After a week, I cancelled my service with them and returned to buying bandwidth from Shaw itself.

That didn't solve anything. I continually called support; they were all convinced my modem was broken (even though things like the diagnostics page showed up fine). One technician never showed up, another showed up too early (5:10pm instead of after 6:00pm).

Finally, today, a technician arrived. He looked at my signal strength and immediately said that I was accidentally disconnected. He went down to the truck to get the keys to the electrical room, hooked me up again, and left. 15 mins.

It wasn't too bad the past six weeks, since a neighbor of mine has unsecured wifi. It did make my surfing habits a lot more prudent, however. And with this latest connection, I now have speeds of 9.2Mbps down / 974Kbps up. Before, it was around 7Mbps/5Kbps.
