Wii Shopping
There are two people in my office that are mildly obsessed about the Wii, the popular videogame console that's sold out everywhere. One of them -- my team leader -- regularly calls the EBGames store in the City Centre mall to check if a shipment of Wii's is coming in.
Today, a shipment was coming in at noon, and my team lead happened to call at the right time. About six of us regularly go to the mall to grab lunch; we went to check EBGames before instead. We apparently came at the right time, and were the first five people in a huge lineup. There were only 15 Wii's available, one per customer.
I didn't buy one...I've played it, and while it was fun, I could see it getting boring quickly. Four of my five colleagues did get one, as well as another coworker who came late...I gave her my spot in line, since I wasn't using it.
The people who were anxiously waiting in line, though, were the lowest of the geeks. The geekiest of the geeks. The loserests of the losers. I wouldn't doubt that a few of them were jizzing in their pants. It was sad, really.
In retrospect, if I did buy one, I could probably have sold it right there for a tidy profit...there were a lot more needy fanboy geeks there than consoles. Ah well, that's all in the past.
