Protein Sources
So, I'm out of a job. I'm also really bored. As a result, I've started to think about ways to optimize my diet. In particular, getting the most protein for the cheapest price.

As such, I've compiled this table using nutritional information from FitDay and prices from this week's grocery flyers. As such, prices are in Canadian dollars.

The normalized values have been compared against chicken breasts...though I can't really explain why Excel thinks that an outside round roast has a smaller PPG than chicken breasts. Rounding error, I assume (no pun intended).

As expected, cheaper sources of protein have more fat, though pork seems to be an exception. Now, I haven't cooked a pork chop for a long time, but I might be switching to them fairly soon.

(Edit: Egg whites are 4 cents / g of protein, not 8 cents)

I made a mistake; egg whites are 4 cents / g of protein. They're also a large part of my protein intake right now...mushrooms and scrabled egg whites wrapped in a whole wheat tortilla with salsa and/or cheese. Works for any meal. Tons of protein and the tortilla has 5g of fibre.

I was kind of baffled that my inital chart put them at a high price, since they're dirt cheap at Costco ($4 for two 500g cartons). All is well now, though.
