X-Men 3 Thoughts
Last weekend, I finally managed to catch X-Men 3: The Last Stand.
The pace of the movie was a lot different than the previous two. The central theme of the movie was "The Cure", a pharmacutical drug that suppressed the mutant gene. Aside from that, there were a lot of small, side stories that seemed to fly by one after another. It was hard to keep track of everything that was going on.
Some characters were eerily missing, with little explanation given. Many others were introduced, but only played bit roles at best (fans of the comics should recognize names like Psylocke and Jubilee). Angel was visible in the trailer and, at the beginning of the movie it seemed he would play a large role, but that didn't pan out.
As a result of all this, it felt more like a cliche action movie than anything else. There wasn't a deep plot; Director Brett Ratner felt he could fill that void with lots of special effects and explosions. Some scenes were emotional, though; and for the last half of the movie, I was feeling very small and unimportant when watching the vast powers being wielded by the mutants.
